Innagural year and only year Team Two Ball and Two Man Four Ball formats were used with each hole worth two points. Also only year a Singles match victory was worth 1.5 points. The second match, Ireland/Del Fante victory over Levey/Oswald, remains the greatest single comeback in tournament history with Ireland/Del Fante making up a seven point deficit with just five holes left. All Singles matches were close with three matches being decided on the beautiful downhill island green Par 3 17th hole. Top performers included Bill Levey, Clayton Oswald, Matt Macy and Eric Rudney, with Macy and Rudney selected as captains for the 1999 event. Biggest disappointments were Jim Ireland and Rob Robinson, each of whom earned only one point in the three-day competition. |
